District Governor's Message - September 2008


Contests
The contest season has started! The first week of September already had five of the twenty-one Area Evaluation and Humorous Speech Contests. Your Club has either had its Club contest to select its representatives at the Area Contest, or will have it very soon as the Area Contests will be all done by the end of September.
All of the Area Contests lead up to the Division Evaluation and Humorous Speech Contests in the month of October. The winners of the Area contests will then compete in their respective Division Contests.

The winners of the Division Contests will then go on to represent their respective Divisions at the November 1 District ONE Fall Conference Evaluation and Humorous Speech Contest.

Register on-line at the District ONE Registration Page set up by Web Master Jon Caplan. Jon is responsible for bring District ONE into the 20th century by enabling us to register on-line (paying with PayPal!) along with the bar-code scan check-in process at the conference on the day of the event.

Awards and Installation Meeting
Past District Governor Donna Oja chaired the Awards and Installation Meeting held at the Proud Bird Restaurant on Sunday, August 24. This event was the best-attended and well-planned and executed event that District ONE has had in a number of years. Donna did an outstanding job leaving no detail overlooked.

There were 113 in attendance with many regrets, as every person who should have been there was invited with hand-addressed invitations done by Past International Director Lydia Boyd and Turner.

Set in the Red Baron Room right next to the Buffet Room, we heard a Key Note address by Past District Governor Penny Post, and witnessed the installation of District Officers by Past International Director Lydia Boyd.

The District paid special acknowledgment to last term’s District teams who enabled District ONE to meet its goals for the first time in three years. The District ONE leadership chose K.C.Converse as the Area Governor of the Year, Tina Tomiyama as the Division Governor of the Year, and Giovanna Dottore as the Toastmaster of the Year.
